Talitha Koum is Growing!

A Promising Future—is NOW!

After 22 years of serving our community as one of the only therapeutic nurseries in Texas, we are setting our sights on the future. Talitha Koum has developed the brains of 30 children at a time, but we couldn’t stop there.

With every year’s success stories—and the certifications and experience we have gained in serving our children—we are prepared to open our doors even further. Our expansion will more than double TKI’s size to 68 children, shortening our 75-child waitlist, and providing one mixed-grade classroom for 8 early elementary children brought to TKI “late,” meaning beyond their toddler stage.

Our goal had been to build a new facility, but it would have robbed our Clay Avenue campus of vital outdoor space for loads of running, jumping, and wheeling.

Then, we were gifted with a childcare center space and all its materials! Lake Shore Baptist Church had an excellent reputation in child care for 50 years. Yet, the church determined that someone else should use the space to run their own program. And delighted they were to offer it to another Christian ministry in Waco—Talitha Koum Institute.

Our community’s involvement grows with each year, and we couldn’t be more grateful.

Cutting the Ribbon, Expanding the Mission

On February 25, 2025, we joyfully held a Ribbon Cutting/Open House and Biggest Baby Shower Ever to welcome our friends and supporters to our new second campus. How wonderful it was to be surrounded by fellow Wacoans and non-profit leaders wishing us well!

To best acclimate to our new home on Bishop Drive, we will begin enrolling infants, ones, and twos this summer of 2025. By August 2026, Talitha Koum will have also enrolled Preschool and Pre-K children, which will double enrollment and impact the lives of 30 additional young children with therapeutic care and brain development.

This expansion also enables us to reach out to the foster-to-adopt community and those who have adopted foster children, helping their little ones become self-regulating—making their transition to a forever home even more secure.

A Chance to Rise Higher

Talitha Koum takes a non-punitive approach to nurturing young children’s neural pathways, rebuilding foundations for learning that are disrupted by high stress from living in poverty. Learn more about our proven methodology here.
